Studio: Spark Studio (Ages 4–7)
Location: Acton Academy Curaçao, Scharlooweg 81B
Contract: Full-time, 1-year contract with possibility for extension or upgrade into full career pathway role
Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week

About the Role

Acton Academy Curaçao is seeking an Assistant Guide to support our Spark Guide in a Kindergarten through 1st Grade studio (ages 4 to 7). Working closely with the Spark Guide and broader guide team, you will help create and sustain a learner-driven studio of up to 25 young learners.

This role is ideal for someone who believes deeply in children’s capabilities and wants to be part of building something meaningful from the ground up.

Who You Are

You see every child (a.k.a. learner) as a hero on a unique journey. You trust young people to grow through challenge, offer real choices, and take responsibility for their learning.

You:

  • Guide through questions, stories, and careful observation—not lectures or rescuing
  • Model curiosity, courage, and self-discipline
  • Embrace uncertainty while defending clear, compassionate boundaries
  • Believe freedom and responsibility go hand in hand
  • Are energized by watching young learners discover what they can do when they lead themselves

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Guide, you will:

  • Facilitate a learner-driven environment where children actively engage in their own learning
  • Prepare and maintain the studio environment to set learners up for success
  • Support learners in exploring interests and questions, adapting activities to      individual needs and curiosities
  • Guide learners in self-governance, goal-setting, and progress tracking
  • Observe and listen deeply, honoring each learner’s perspective and growth
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents/guardians to share insights about learner progress
  • Support special projects as needed, including our annual Acton Children’s Business Fair

Preferred Experience & Skills

We are looking for someone with a lifelong love of learning, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to thrive in a startup school environment. This is an entry-level Assistant Guide position within our Acton Academy team, however previous experience working with children is essential.

You ideally bring:

  • Prior work experience with children in schools, childcare, camps, clubs, after-school programs, tutoring, or similar settings
  • Experience with Montessori methods (strongly preferred)
  • A clear understanding of child development and learner-driven education
  • A  growth mindset and an attitude towards reflection and improvement
  • Deep respect for young people, empathy for their challenges, and skill in peaceful, compassionate limit-setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills with learners, colleagues, and parents
  • Excellent organizational skills and adaptability
  • The working languages of the school are English and Dutch. Candidates must be able to communicate professionally in both languages. Papiamentu is a plus.
  • No traditional teaching certification required
