Position Description (posted February 2026)

Do you crave working with a small, mission-driven team of entrepreneurs who are changing education?

Studio: Middle Studio (Ages 11-14)
Location: Acton Academy Curaçao, Scharlooweg 81B
Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week during sessions

About the Role

Acton Academy Curaçao is seeking an Apprentice Guide for our 6th through 8th grade studio (ages 11 to 14). Working closely with the broader guide team, you will help create and sustain a learner-driven studio of up to 30 young people.

Who You Are

You see every learner as a hero on a unique journey. You hold them capable, offer real choices, and trust them to grow through challenges. You model courage, curiosity, and self-discipline in your own work. You guide through questions, stories, and careful observation—not lectures or rescuing.

You embrace uncertainty, defend clear boundaries, and create a studio where freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. You are energized by building something meaningful and by watching young people discover what they can do when they lead their own learning.

Key Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Guide, you will:

  • Co-create the studio space, yearly arc, and session plans
  • Facilitate Socratic discussions and prepare launches, quests, and real-world challenges
  • Support learners through open-ended questions, not answers
  • Help uphold studio guardrails and contracts
  • Guide the studio’s culture, energy, and conflict resolution
  • Lead outdoor activities, games, art projects, and field trips
  • Collaborate with guides and pitch in across studios when needed
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and team reflection
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents/guardians to share insights about learner progress
  • Support special projects as needed, including our annual Acton Children’s Business Fair

What Makes You Successful

  • Warm-hearted, tough-minded, calm, and growth-oriented
  • Skilled at asking powerful questions and facilitating accountability
  • Strong understanding of learner-driven and Montessori principles
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to inspire curiosity
  • A team collaborator who puts learners at the center

Preferred Experience & Skills

We do not expect candidates to meet every point below. These are backgrounds that often help guides ramp up faster, but they are not requirements.

  • Experience working with young people, such as in schools, camps, clubs, after-school programs, tutoring, or similar settings
  • Montessori or coaching experience
  • Experience in small/startup environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills with learners, colleagues, and parents
  • Excellent organizational skills and adaptability
  • Candidates must be able to communicate professionally in English and Dutch. Papiamentu is a plus.
  • No traditional teaching certification required

If this resonates with you, we encourage you to take the first step!
