Spark Studio | Kindergarten

At Acton Academy Curacao,  our early childhood studio for ages 3.5* to 7 is called Spark, and is where a child's hero's journey begins.

The environment is intentionally designed in a Montessori-style layout, organized into distinct learning areas that invite exploration in literacy, numeracy, art, science, and practical life. Learners move through these spaces at their own pace, guided by their own curiosity.

We offer a rich range of experiences including STEAM, art, science, math, reading, writing, and outdoor learning; all carefully crafted to support each child's natural curiosity and development.

Our play-based approach, hands-on Quests, and individual learning plans provide a strong foundation for academic readiness.

Small group sizes mean every child is seen and known. Guides observe, ask questions, and gently challenge, but the child is always the one driving their own discovery.

In preparation for the Elementary years, children in this studio are also introduced to the fundamentals of Project-Based Learning.  They lay the groundwork across reading, writing, math, and life skills of independent learning and graduate when they demonstrate readiness, with the skills necessary to thrive in our upper studios.

Our Spark Studio lays the groundwork for reading, math, science, citizenship, and independent learning skills, preparing young people to excel in the Discovery Elementary Studio.

LEARNING DESIGN IN SPARK

PRACTICAL LIFE

PRACTICAL LIFE

PRACTICAL LIFE

Spark is a Montessori- inspired studio that values self-directed learning and fosters independent responsibility.

Children engage in play-based learning, age-appropriate Socratic discussions, and take part in daily studio cleanup.

LITERACY

PRACTICAL LIFE

Developing a love of literacy - across reading, writing, and speaking - is a core skill and at the heart of our Spark studio.

We use self-paced, hands-on programs such as Waseca Reading Program and Handwriting Without Tears.

Learning to read and write is fun!

GOALS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

With a Montessori-inspired, play-based philosophy, our Guides bring the wonders and magic and real-world uses of Math into our Spark Studio.

We combine both physical, sensory materials and online, adaptive programs such as Khan Academy Kids for literacy and math.

GOALS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

A GATEWAY TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

GOALS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Spark learners gradually learn and practice basic goal-setting skills. This supports them to be accountable to themselves and others, and develops important character traits on the path to reaching small and big goals.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Spark learners gain the fundamentals of Project-Based Learning when participating in Quest. Quests include real-world projects across subjects in STEAM, art, science, geography, and civilization.

My child is 3, can they join Spark?

We may consider enrollment from 3.5 years old when a child is developmentally ready.

Readiness includes being toilet trained (they can go independently without wetting themselves), feeling comfortable separating from parents, and being able to participate in daily studio routines with support. These foundations help children feel confident, capable, and settled in a learner-driven environment.

If a child isn’t quite there yet, waiting a little longer is often the kindest choice and leads to a much smoother start.
